Challenge
7 days, one email a day. One boundary, written and said out loud by the end.
Most of what you call a "boundary" is actually a rule. And rules — even the well-meaning ones — feel safe for about a week, then quietly leak resentment into everything they touch. You end up either over-controlling the people you love, or swallowing what you need until it comes out sideways.
This challenge exists to untangle that knot, one small email at a time — no Zoom call, no calendar-blocking, no live event to build your week around.
Day 1 — Tell a rule from a boundary (without the lecture)
Day 2 — Spot the line between a boundary and emotional blackmail
Day 3 — Give your boundary an actual consequence — the "no 8s" rule
Day 4 — Set it without going cold — the guilt-vs-responsibility reframe
Day 5 — Say it out loud, with 3 pocket lines for when they push back
Day 6 — Integrate it into one boundary you'll actually keep
Anyone who's said yes recently when they meant no
Anyone who confuses "boundary" with "rule" or "ultimatum"
Anyone who feels guilty the moment they protect themselves
Solo-friendly — you don't need your partner to do this with you
This challenge assumes a relationship between equals, both acting in good faith. It does not apply to abuse, violence, manipulation, or coercion. If that's your situation, your safety comes first — please reach out to a professional or someone you trust.
Ruffus (Jaime Gama) is a psychologist and psychotherapist who specializes in ethical relationships across monogamy, polyamory, and kink. He's the author of Si te duele, ahí no es (Penguin Random House) and creator of The PolyKink Therapist and Gotitas de Poliamor.
How much time does this take? About 10 minutes a day.
Is this therapy? No — it's educational content, not a substitute for therapy.
What if I miss a day? The emails stay in your inbox. Go at your own pace. Do I need my partner to do this with me? No — it works solo.
